Star Trek The Kobayashi Alternative, along with other Simon & Schuster games, featured an unusual book-style of packaging. Rather than a box, the game sported a hard cover and spine with a ring-bound manual inside. To secure the floppy disk, pamphlet, and other loose materials, they were contained within a plastic sleeve or "page" that was also ring-bound. The pamphlet contained startup instructions and a command summary.
