originally seen on Admiral (hardest level of difficulty) but could
be applicable to the two lower difficulty settings. This crash can
be alleviated by completing the mission in under 4:30 minutes. The
key to completing this mission within 4 minutes and 30 seconds is
to concentrate on the convoy freighters. Other ships will fire and
attack you. Ignore them. Destroy the freighters and you should
finish the mission.

In some missions, the objectives will not complete until your ship
leaves the map. If you are in a mission and believe all objectives
to be complete, try warping off the map to receive your victory

19. What ports are needed
to play via GameSpy?
Internet play through GameSpy Arcade requires additional ports to be
open. If you have placed the system in the DMZ area of your router,
the ports should be open and no further adjustments are needed.
However, if using port forwarding, the following ports need to be
opened:
80
6500
6667
13139
27900
28900
29900
29901
This will allow you to host, join and play skirmish matches through
GameSpy Arcade. Skirmish mode through direct IP connection does not
require these additional ports.
If you are having issues connecting to the Dynaverse 3 multiplayer
campaign mode, or need any information on configuring your router or
your broadband connection to work with multiplayer, please consult
the network_readme.rtf file. You can access the file through the
Start Menu, or in the location where you installed SFC 3 in the

When you attempt to turn it off a message pops up stating you do not
have enough experience to perform the action. Even though it appears
that erratic maneuvers are not actually on, the game acts as if you
are and will prevent you from performing other actions.
Currently, the only way to prevent this is to move your ship off the
map and try the mission again. |

wrong or not showing up in the user interface.
Sometimes the proper amount of disrepute will be acknowledged by the
User Interface(UI) and other times it will not be shown by the game.
In order for the different levels of disrepute to be shown on the
UI, you will have to continually log on and off of the Dynaverse for
the UI to update correctly. |

44. The game is crashing
when trying to save my replay in the Filmroom. What's going on?
If you are saving a replay in the Filmroom, make sure that you are
naming the replay that you are saving. Leaving a blank for the name
of the replay can cause the game to crash. |

46. During install I get an
I/O error.
If you have multiple drives and you are using a DVD-Rom drive then
try installing the game from a regular CD-Rom drive or CD-R/RW
drive. We have seen some issues with DVD-Rom drives and this game.
Try this:
- Change the DMA setting on the CD-ROM drive.
- NOTE: The following is unsupported by
Activision. We have found the following to help the game install.
Download Nero DriveSpeed from
here.
This freeware utility from Nero will allow you to slow your drive
speed down, in increments, all the way to 2X. Try setting it to
8X. Some users may have to choose other settings to get optimal
results. Your CD-ROM must be ATAPI / IDE. SCSI is not supported.
If you receive an ASPI related error message when running Nero
DriveSpeed, you may have to update your ASPI layer:
(Check ASPI version)
www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspichk.exe
(Latest ASPI version)
www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspi32.exe
With some Win9x systems, you may have to “force” the ASPI layer to
install. For more information regarding this you can refer to:
flexion.org/aspi
- NOTE: The following is unsupported by
Activision. Set your CD-ROM drive or IDE channels for the CD-ROM
to run in PIO mode 1 or a lower setting then it currently is at
through BIOS. The exact steps for doing this may differ from
motherboard to motherboard. You will need to check with your
hardware or system manufacturer for more information on this
topic.

This answer is for an Advanced user. Please do not attempt the below
solution if you are not comfortable editing the Registry. Damaging

C:\Program Files\Activision\SFC3
Remove the registry keys for the game.
1) Click on the Start button > Run.
2) Type REGEDIT at the prompt.
3) Click the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
4) Click the + next to SOFTWARE
5) Click the + next to Activision
6) Right-click on the Star Trek Starfleet Command III folder and
select Delete. |

48. My weapons do not work
when I go to red alert.
Uninstall the game, delete the game folder, and then reinstall the
game. Make sure that you do not install any third party maps/mods/skins
of any type.
Make sure that you wait a few seconds after entering the battle
before going to red alert. If you go to red alert before all of the
assets have loaded you may have problems with your weapons. |
