Deep Space Nine The Fallen: Cheats

TREKCORE > GAMING > THE FALLEN > Cheats

Information here came from the Help file that came with the game, as well as the game's Official message board. If you cannot find help on this page, you may want to visit the FAQ, as it has answers to non-technical questions related to the game.

Please note: If Star Trek - Deep Space Nine: The Fallen locks up or crashes when you run it, then a list of "Safe Mode" options will appear the next time you run it. This mode is similar to Windows 95's Safe Mode. It runs with sound, DirectDraw, and 3D hardware support disabled. This way, you can modify your options that may be causing problems, then run the game again.

Install the patch! It may fix the problem you're having! Download it here.

1. The Fallen stops with a "Ran out of virtual memory" error.
2. The game crashes when it starts up or when I change video resolutions.
3. There are corrupted textures on surfaces during gameplay.
4. The Fallen runs very slowly!
5. Why can't I select specialty audio drivers like EAX?
6. When I try to run the Unreal Editor, I get an error saying the "Threed32.ocx" file is not registered correctly or is missing.

1. The Fallen stops with a "Ran out of virtual memory" error.
You need to free up more hard disk space on your primary drive (C:) in order to play. Star Trek - Deep Space Nine: The Fallen's large levels and rich textures take up a lot of virtual memory. The developers recommend having 165 megabytes of free hard disk space for running the game.

2. The game crashes when it starts up.
This is most likely due to problems with your video card driver. Try installing a newer driver, or rolling back to an older one.

3. There are corrupted textures on surfaces during gameplay.
This is most likely due to problems with your video card driver. Try installing a newer driver, or rolling back to an older one. Alternatively:

If you are running Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen in Direct3D or Metal mode on an ATI Rage Pro, Riva 128, Intel i740, Matrox G200/G250 or Rendition V2200 or Savage 4 and are experiencing problems with corrupted images or textures, try the following modification or switch to software rendering mode:

  • Ensure Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen is not running.
  • Open the file DS9.ini in a text editor, this file can be found in one of the following locations (it maybe elsewhere if you changed the default install path during installation):

C:\Program Files\DS9TheFallen\System\DS9.ini
C:\Program Files\InfiniteLoop\DS9TheFallen\System\DS9.ini

  • Search for the line which reads “DistanceFogging=True”, change the line to read “DistanceFogging=False”
  • Save the file.
  • Restart Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen.
  • Ensure that Direct3D rendering mode is selected under the options -> video menu.

Please note that the developers do not recommend running The Fallen using the Direct3D driver and any of these video cards.

4. The Fallen runs very slowly!
Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen's performance is highly dependent on the amount of RAM you have in your machine, and the amount of memory that is available. Machines with less memory will access their hard disk more frequently to load data, which causes sporadic pauses in gameplay. Thus, if you have a 64 megabyte (or less) machine, you should make sure that you don't have other unnecessary programs loaded in memory when playing Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen. We do not recommend running The Fallen using the D3D or OpenGl drivers if you have 64MB of memory or less. In this instance you will get better performance running under the software or Glide renderer. Also try decreasing your texture detail levels in the Otions window. You can also try lowering your screen resolution and screen bit depth. The options menu also includes many performance switches. To ensure best performance switch the “Detail / Performance” tab to “Best Performance”.

5. Why can't I select specialty audio drivers like EAX?
After installation, The Fallen only makes available the recommended base audio drivers. If you wish to use a specialty provider, such as EAX, you need to copy the relevant .m3d file from the /redist/win32/extras folder into the /redist/win32 folder. After copying the relevant .m3d file you can switch to the new provider from the “Audio” tab within options. Be warned that changing audio driver from the default can result in slow downs, hangs or audio loss. If you experience audio loss, you may need to restart the game and maybe even restart your computer.

6. When I try to run the Unreal Editor, I get an error saying the "Threed32.ocx" file is not registered correctly or is missing.
