Linux
technically refers to only the Linux kernel, or core of any
Linux operating system, but it is commonly used to reference
any distribution of software based on the Linux core.
One of Linux' greatest strengths is its flexibility and
potential for customization to suit virtually any computing
need. Thus, there is no standard operating environment, and
the image seen above represents only one version of the most
common implementations.
