STAR TREK games arrive at a communicator near you!
The world of personal communicator technology made a quantum leap today as
Activision, Inc. and Digital Bridges announced the creation of the worlds most
advanced entertainment software for the Wireless Internet. Digital Bridges, the
planets most exciting mobile entertainment company will be producing the Star
Trek games with Activision, Inc., one of the most respected publishers in the
galaxy. Both are bringing Star Trek(R): First Duty and Star Trek(R): Prime
Directive to mobile devices including Wireless Internet phones throughout the
known universe.
Star TrekŪ: First Duty is an introduction to Starfleet, giving the student a
chance to learn more about the principles and philosophy of the United
Federation of Planets, as well as providing hands-on experience of commanding
each of the key stations on board major Starfleet vessels. Graduating students
are qualified for immediate action postings.
Star Trek(R): Prime Directive, is a major exploration of the Caledonian Expanse,
a vast tract of uncharted space, which was recently linked to Federation space
via a new wormhole. Starfleet ships will be undertaking long-term exploration
missions to seek out strange new worlds and new civilizations.
Both games are being developed by Wirelessgames, Digital Bridges wholly owned
development and publishing studio. Chris Wright, Digital Bridges Business
Director, Games said, Its a fantastic honor to be able to develop games based in
the world famous Star Trek universe. At Wirelessgames we believe in creating the
most innovative and enjoyable games for the new medium of the Wireless Internet,
so for Star Trek(R): First Duty and Star Trek(R): Prime Directive, we are
planning to do something really special.
Star Trek(R): First Duty and Star Trek(R): Prime Directive push back the
boundaries of gaming on the Wireless Internet. Designed to complement each
other, the knowledge & skills acquired by the player in Star Trek(R): First
Duty, can be put into practice within the Star Trek(R): Prime Directive game.
Star Trek(R): Prime Directive is going to completely redefine how people think
of games on the Wireless Internet, says Wright. It is a massively multi-player
game with up to ten thousand players per server. It all takes place in a
persistent universe, so the game will continue whether you are on-line or not.
Mobile gaming offers a whole new experience to players. The capabilities of the
technology make it possible to create completely unique and innovative games,"
said Dave Anderson, Director of Business Development at Activision. "Were very
excited at the possibilities offered by both Star Trek(R): First Duty and Star
Trek(R): Prime Directive.
Both Star Trek(R): First Duty and Star Trek(R): Prime Directive are being
developed using Digital Bridges UNITY system. UNITY is a content creation and
delivery system supporting multiple devices, networks carriers and languages.
Kevin Bradshaw, CEO and founder of Digital Bridges, summed it up, People have
been criticizing wireless gaming because of the technical limits of the handsets
and data speeds, he says. However, your cell phone offers possibilities which no
other technology can match. Imagine, he went on, sitting in a boardroom or
classroom, when your phone bleeps and delivers a message telling you, your ship
is under attack. You know that youre going to stand up and say Excuse me. I have
to take this.
Star Trek(R): First Duty is due for release on your cellular phone in Quarter 2,
2001, with Star Trek(R): Prime Directive following in Quarter 3 of the same year.
Digital Bridges was created in 1998; its goal is to be the world leader in
building a network of entertainment channels for mobile devices on the wireless
Internet. The company brings three major assets to the new medium of wireless
communications: delivery technology, distribution and publishing capabilities
and content design experience. Digital Bridges is the creator of UNITY, the
universal wireless entertainment technology solution. Since its launch in the
second quarter of 2000, Digital Bridges initial Wireless Entertainment channel,
Wirelessgames has been a runaway success. The channel is currently carried live
