3. What's the 1.2 Patch all about??

To upgrade your version of Armada, simply download the Armada_Patch_1_2.exe (3.7 MB) and double-click it. Click on the Next button. After you have read the Software Licensing Agreement, click on the Yes button. Then the Readme file will be displayed. After you have read through the Readme, then press the Next button. Press the Install button. When the installation is complete press the Finish button to return to Windows. After the installation is complete you can then launch Star Trek: Armada and take advantage of the updated functionality.

Notes:
The update will work for all Microsoft Windows 95/98 CD-ROM versions of Star Trek: Armada.

New Changes:

  • Pathing Improved – Ships will have less trouble moving in groups or navigating in areas with lots of objects.
  • Rally Point Improved – Ships will not try to occupy the same location when they exit the shipyards.
  • Strategic AI in Instant Action and Multiplayer has been given better handicaps on medium and hard difficulty. Including sped up build time and reduced cost.
  • In Instant Action/Multiplayer games the AI will now cloak ships if it can; more often on medium, and most of the time on hard.
  • The Chain Reaction Pulsar weapon has been modified so that it will not be able to hit cloaked ships and has been balanced to be less powerful.
  • In standard Multiplayer games each team will begin with a starbase, 2 construction ships, and a scout vessel.
  • Implemented Instant Action save functionality.
  • Improved game stability with issues related to [ESC] key being depressed.
  • Fixed several weapons related crashes.
  • Fixed crash related to Corbromite Reflector and saved games. If the Corbromite Reflector was active prior to saving the game it could cause a crash on loading of the saved game.

4. Will this game work on Windows NT/2000/XP?
  • Windows NT
The game is not compatible with this operating system.
  • Windows 2000 and XP
Not all games are compatible with the new operating system. This product is designed for use with Microsoft Windows 98 and above, Activision cannot guarantee its compatibility with Windows 2000/XP. This product might install on systems using Windows 2000/XP, but it has not been thoroughly tested and certified with the new Microsoft Operating System.

We cannot guarantee that it will work with Win XP, but you can try the following:
    1) Right-click on a shortcut of the program
    2) Select Properties.
    3) Click the Compatibility tab.
    4) Checkmark the Run in compatibility mode.
    5) Try to run it in Windows 95, Windows 98/ME or Windows NT/2000.

This is not a guaranteed fix, but it may help with some of the compatibility problems you may have with Windows XP.

5. Is there a demo for Star Trek Armada?
Yes! Check out our downloads section.

6. I have questions about mods/maps/addons.
The installation and use of modifications is not supported by Activision Customer Support. If you are having trouble with a mod, please contact the person who designed it for assistance. Typically, there is a readme file in the download that will mention where to direct questions to.

7. Is a joystick supported to work with the game?
This game does not support a joystick or gamepad. This is a Real Time Strategy game which requires precise mouse movements and would not work well with the inaccuracy of other types of input devices.

GAME QUESTIONS ANSWERS

1. I'm playing a single player mission and it will not end, I killed everything.
Check the nebulas for enemies. Some of the single player mission will have enemies hiding in nebulas for surprise attacks, if these attacks are not triggered in the game the enemies will remain in the nebula and will not be visible until you go inside the nebula. Mutara (purple), Neutral (light blue), and Metrion (green) nebulas are the ones you should check because they are the only nebulas that allow the ship to hide without taking damage.

If the missions simply will not end, even if all the objectives have been completed, then the installation of the game may be corrupt. To correct this you should manually install the game in Windows Safe Mode. First uninstall the game, and delete the folder from the hard drive once it's through. Then copy the contents of the CD-ROM to a folder on your hard drive, does not matter where the folder is or what it's called, just so long as you can remember where you put it. To get into Safe Mode:

  • Start-up your PC.
  • Reboot the computer.
  • At about the time it "beeps" and says "Starting Windows 9x" start tapping the F8 key. (If you see the Windows logo you waited too long and you will need to press RESET and try again)
  • You should get a DOS screen and a list of options and you want Safe Mode (typically option 3).
  • After selecting the number press Enter (and Windows will boot up in Safe Mode).

Once in Safe Mode, find the folder you made with the Star Trek Armada files in it and double click on the Setup.exe file in there to run the installer. Once it's through installing, reboot the computer normally and try the game again.

2. When I finish a Multiplayer or Instant Action game it doesn't exit.
There is a several second delay before being taken to the Admiral's Log (score screen) to allow players to chat and survey the map as well as relish in their victory. The Victorious player will receive the message "You are Victorious!" while the defeated player(s) will receive the "You are Vanquished!" message so there is no confusion as to who the victor and loser are. After the game finishes with this delay, the game will return to the Admiral's Log.

3. What are the playable races in the single player campaigns?
The following races are playable:
  • Federation
  • Klingon
  • Romulan
  • Borg
4. Every time I finish a mission, it loads the same mission over again.
See manually install game.

5. When I try to start a mission I receive a "Please Insert CD" error, and the CD is in the drive.

Download and install the latest patch for the game from our website.

Ensure your CD-ROM drive can read 80 minute discs. Some low-quality drives such as the Samsung SC-140 and Acer 32X cannot read these discs.

Make sure you have 32 bit drivers for your CD-ROM drive.

Set the CD-ROM cache size to zero.

Change the DMA setting on the CD-ROM drive.

Make sure the drive letters for the CD-ROM are set correctly.

Make sure that the location for CD music to play is set correctly.

Make sure your system can successfully play Audio CD's.

Turn off Auto Insert Notification.

6. The game is too dark.
Make sure you have the latest video card drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Turn up the brightness on your monitor. Consult your monitor manual on how to do this.

You may wish to turn up the brightness setting for the video card. Note that this might increase the overall screen brightness as well. Typically, this is available by going into Display Properties, then Advanced settings. This process varies according to video chipset, so you will have to consult your video card manual on how to do this.

7. Do any Star Trek cast members appear in the game?
Yes. Here is a list of Trek alumni supplying their voice talents in the game:
NAME  PREVIOUS TREK ROLE  ARMADA ROLE
Patrick Stewart Captain Picard (TNG) Captain Picard
J.G. Hertzler General Martok (DS9) General Martok
Michael Dorn Worf (TNG and DS9) Worf
