Secret of Vulcan Fury: Synopsis

TREKCORE > GAMING > SECRET OF VULCAN FURY > Synopsis

Thanks to John McGinley for some of the information on this page!

The story for Secret of Vulcan Fury is based on the Romulan/Vulcan split that occurred thousands of years ago.  During the war that split the two peoples, the Vulcans used a space station called "Fury" to destroy the Romulan fleets.  The station drew its power from the twin planets and a Vulcan would have to mind meld with the station to use the weapon. The surviving Romulans fled to settle several planets and later establish the Romulan Star Empire.

In the game, the Romulans try to establish peace with the Vulcans.  There is a peace conference on Vulcan and the USS Enterprise is sent to provide security.  The peace conference, however, is a ruse for the Romulans to try and find the Fury space station and use it on the Vulcan people.

The story for SoVF was to be divided into 6 chapters or episodes (it was initially going to be 8, but that was cut down as the project progressed), with each one focusing on a different male main character from TOS (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov, Scotty). The story had 3 main known arcs (the existence of others is possible but unknown at this time). The first arc dealt with internal strife on Vulcan and we can assume that this was the Spock and McCoy campaign. McCoy's episode was a murder mystery where McCoy had to investigate the death of a Romulan ambassador that was participating in the peace talks.  The Romulans are actually behind the murder and blame it on a Tellarite (who is actually the son of one that was killed in the Original Series) in hopes of starting a new war.  In the game, Kirk and company are held in a Vulcan prison under suspicion of murdering the Romulan official.

The following two chapters uncovered the deep dark secrets of the Vulcan/Romulan wars of eons past, which I would assume are more Scotty and Sulu based; Scotty specifically has to deal with a sabotage event on the Enterprise. The last arc involves a Romulan attack or war on the Federation when the Federation comes to the aide of Vulcan.  This is undoubtedly the Kirk, Chekov arc.

Other known scenes involve:

  • Fighter combat over Vulcan and a twin planet.

  • The use of a super weapon over the twin planet.

  • Experiencing a Vulcan Mind Meld.

  • First time seeing the much talked about Enterprise Bowling Alley.

  • Its destruction by another weapon over Vulcan.

  • The crew of the Enterprise beaming into an ancient Romulan vessel.

  • The Enterprise investigating the destruction/disappearance of a freighter

  • A gigantic web of interconnected asteroids from Trek Literature.

  • Several scenes of tense standoff and communiqué from the Fed fleet to the Romulan fleet.
