Star Trek Starfleet Command Orion Pirates: Ships

TREKCORE > GAMING > STARFLEET COMMAND ORION PIRATES > Ships

The ships in Orion Pirates generally consist of Fighters, Light Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers, Dreadnoughts, and Freighters. The technology era played in (Early, Middle, Late, or Advanced) determines what each ship looks like and how it is equipped. Because of this, the game can produce more than 200 different ships. Listed below are the five different classes of ships for each race.

Federation | Klingon | Romulan | Gorn | Hydran | Lyran | Mirak | Interstellar Concordium | Orion Pirates
 FEDERATION

Federation starships are generally well-rounded and designed for more than just war. They have excellent overall shielding and better science systems than most ships. However, the power of the photon torpedo means that even the smallest Federation ship is a dangerous opponent.

 KLINGON

An accurate description of the typical Klingon starship would be heavier forward shielding and weapons, weaker rear shields, excellent turning rates and good firing arcs. Klingon ships are meant for battle, so they include fewer un-essential systems.

 ROMULAN

Romulan ships come in three distinct generations: Old Series, KR and New Series.

The Old Series ships were alloriginally sublight designs that had been modified for warp travel due to a technology exchange with the Klingons. These ships comprised the Romulan fleet for a long period of time. Their lack of sophistication left the Romulans unable to fulfill their dreams of conquest and they were generally regarded as a nuisance by the other races.

The Klingons provided dozens of older light cruisers and hundreds of frigates and escorts, which make up the KR series. While these would have been mothballed by the Klingon Deep Space Fleet due to their age and cost to refit, the Romulans converted them to use Romulan plasma and cloaking technology. These ships formed the basis of the Romulan deep space navy. Newer Klingon construction was eventually sold to the Romulans, at very steep prices.

Eventually, the Romulans were able to build a new generation of starships -- the New Series. These excellent designs formed the basis of a major military power and a significant threat to peace.

 GORN

The Gorn ships are designed with an attitude that reflects the Gorn people, straight forward and to the point. Gorn ships tend to be less maneuverable than those of the other races, however; they make up for it with excellent phaser arcs; most of a ship's phasers can fire in almost any direction. Their shielding is above average and, like the Gorn themselves, the vessels are very tough, able to withstand a fair amount of damage and still be battle worthy. The heavy weapon of choice for the Gorn is the plasma torpedo, and Gorn ships typically carry more firepower than other races' ships of the same class.

The Gorn fleet is small compared to that of the Romulans, but of high-quality ships. In earlier times, the Gorn ships had relatively few heavy weapons. This was adequate against the sublight Romulan ships, but proved inadequate against warp-capable KRs. The Gorn refitted their ships with more and heavier plasma torpedoes, greatly increasing their combat power.

 HYDRAN

The starships of the Hydran Kingdom come in one of three flavors: fusion and fighter armed for close combat, hellbore armed for long-distance support fire, and command ships with both types of weaponry. The hellbore-armed ships are less common than the fusion and fighter armed ships. This is fitting with the Hydran fighter doctrine. The smaller fighters are used to harass and attack the enemy, giving the fusion-armed ship time to close the distance and reach firing range. Hydran ships are well known for their sturdiness. They can take a substantial amount of internal damage before losing critical systems.

 LYRAN

Lyran starships use Disruptors as their primary heavy weapon. They also have the Expanding Sphere Generator (ESG) that can be used both defensively and offensively. The Lyrans have excellent ships; they are well balanced and well designed. They are difficult to attack with missiles or fighters.

Many of the Lyran starships are based heavily on conversions from smaller hulls. Lyrans use as many common parts and systems as possible.

 MIRAK

Mirak starships use missiles as their primary heavy weapon but also carry disruptors in limited numbers. The Mirak were the one of the first races to employ shuttles in the fighter role. They were also the first race to build a dedicated carrier and still continue their reliance on the Missile-fighter combination.

 INTERSTELLAR CONCORDIUM (ISC)

The typical ISC starship is very capable; their PPD gives their large ships a strong punch at long range. Most of their designs did not appear until after their enemies had fielded their fleets. It seems the ISC are not above spying on and stealing ideas from the 'lesser' races.

The ISC do not name their ships as a government; instead they designate their ships with the ship type and a number designation. Proper names however; are often given by the ship's captainat its discretion.

 ORION PIRATES

Orion Pirate starships are more varied than any of the other races. Orion Cartel ships have photons and phasers as their main weapons, but also employ disruptors, missiles, plasma, and cloaking devices. Crimson Shadow employ Klingon warships from time to time. Their arsenal includes disruptors and missiles as primary weapons, but also utilize photon torpedoes, phasers, hellbore cannons, and fusion beams. The Camboro Cartel use missiles, disruptors, ESGs, and photon torpedoes. Prime Industries tend to employ long range weapons. Their ships generally use PPDs, photon torpedoes, plasma torpedoes, phasers, and occasionally hellbore cannons. The Tiger Heart clan prefers small ships. Their weapons of choice are ESGs and disruptors. The Wyldefire Compact ships consist of any sort of ship. Many freighter hulls, including captured luxury liners, have been converted into makeshift pirate ships.
