Klingon Academy: How To Make A Klingon Academy DVD

TREKCORE > GAMING > KLINGON ACADEMY > How To Make A Klingon Academy DVD

Well, Starfleet Academy had a DVD version and Klingon Academy was supposed to have one but it never arrived. Despite various efforts, including contacting Activision it eventually became clear that it would not be possible to get the DVD version out and so that was the end of that. However CD's don't last forever so a while ago Fox decided to build a DVD version of Klingon Academy due to interest of the fans in having a DVD version. This document will hopefully explain well enough how to make your own Klingon Academy DVD without having to download a complete 3.3GB ISO image. This was originally intended to use the stock installer that came with the CD's but this for some reason proved unstable so a new installer has to be created.

Requirements:

  • Original Klingon Academy CD's (US/UK Version, German version currently not supported but will be soon).
  • Updated setup files (Klingon Academy DVD Kit) available from here - 343 MB.
  • 8GB free hard drive space recommended, should get away with 4GB though.
  • Nero or some other CD/DVD writing application.
  • DVD+/-RW drive.

Optional Requirements: a printer capable of printing onto a printable DVD media.

The results:
The files which you will downloaded are essentially just a new installer and a few other changes, the major changes are detail below:

  • 1.02 Patch already applied.
  • Patch.dat no longer in use, 1.02 patch files are built into the new data.dat.
  • Screenshot fix pre applied in the new data.dat.
  • New installer capable of installing Scripting Package, AI Trainer & extracting data.dat at install time.

Build Instructions:

  1. Download the Klingon Academy DVD Kit here - 343 MB.
  2. Extract the Klingon Academy DVD Kit to "C:\KA_1" or directory of your choice.
  3. Copy contents of the Movies directory on each of the Klingon Academy CD's to "C:\KA_1\Movies" Overwrite all files when asked.
  4. When copying is complete, the "KA_1" directory should have the following properties:
    • Size: 3.18 GB (3,422,330,446 bytes)
    • Size on disk: 3.18 GB (3,422,605,312 bytes)
    • Contains: 188 Files, 3 Folders
  5. Fire up your DVD burning application of choice and create a new DVD with the volume name of "KA_1". This naming is vital!
  6. Add all files from the "C:\KA_1" to the compilation.
  7. Burn it.

Optional:
For those of you who have a means to print a label directly onto printable DVD media, Fox has generously created the following image for this purpose.
