1. I can't get the sound test to work.
Check DOS Sound Card Drivers Make sure that you have all of the DOS sound card drivers installed on your machine. Choosing Sound Blaster 8 or Sound Blaster Pro at port 220, IRQ 5 and DMA 1 works with most of the sound cards not listed. When choosing the sound card make sure that you have selected the appropriate port address, IRQ, and DMA settings. Using IRQ 2 or IRQs greater than 9 is not recommended.

2. I get no sound in the game.
Check Sound Settings in STTNG.INI File If you are not getting any sound in the game even after you've configured the sound card during the installation and heard Captain Picard say ""Make it So"", then go to your Star Trek Directory in DOS and delete the STTNG.INI file. Next, run the SETUP program to reconfigure the sound options.

3. My mouse is leaving trails on the screen or causing scratch sound.
Update Mouse and VESA Drivers Your DOS mouse driver must be upgraded. If the problem persists, then you need to upgrade your VESA driver for your video card (or try the Display Doctor utility).

4. How do I install and run under MS-DOS mode?
How to Install and Run in MS-DOS Mode To enter Windows 95/98 MS-DOS mode you can follow these directions: 1) In Windows 95/98 click on the ""START"" Button 2) Click on ""Shutdown"" 3) Select ""Restart the Computer in MS-DOS mode"" This will drop you to a ""C:\windows"" prompt. You should now be able to go to your CD-ROM drive letter by typing in your designated CD-ROM drive letter followed by a colon, then hit . If you receive an ""INVALID DRIVE SPECIFICATION"" error, then your DOS CD-ROM drivers are not loading. Please consult with your CD-ROM or computer manufacturer to set up your DOS CD-ROM drivers or install the game in Windows. 5) From your CD-ROM drive prompt, type ""INSTALL"" hit . The Star Trek installation screen should appear. 6) You can play Star Trek at any time in MS-DOS mode by simply going to your STTNG directory on your hard drive and type "STTNG".

5. I get a blank screen when I try to start the game.
VESA Driver Issue This is usually caused by a VESA driver problem. You can experiment with the UNIVESA option in the install program to correct this problem. If the problems continue then you will need to contact your Video card manufacturer for an updated VESA driver or you may try the link below for the Display Doctor utility. Click on the link(s) below to obtain the appropriate update file: Visit the Display Doctor site.

Q

6. I get an EXCEPTION 12 at a specific memory address.
Check the Memory Manager Line This is usually caused by a conflict in the memory manager line. Make sure that your EMM386 line in the config.sys looks like the following: DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS You can also just remove the line and try again.

Q

7. I get the error "Not enough disk space for swapping."
Check Free Disk Space The program requires 16 MB of disk space for swapping. Please make sure that you have enough disk space free for the swap file.

Q

8. The installation program reports that my machine is a 386?
This usually happens to users installing the game on a NEXGEN machine. NEXGEN has a fix for this, please contact them (unfortunately we could not locate a NEXGEN contact to include for you here).
